Surjectivity of independent linear functionals

If $q_1,\dots ,q_n\in V^{\ast }$ are linearly independent, thenmaps $V$ onto $F^n$. Otherwise a nonzero functional annihilating its proper image would give a nontrivial linear relation among the $q_j$.
