Orientation reversal of surface curvature

Replacing the chosen unit normal $N$ by $-N$ replaces the shape operator $S$ by $-S$. On a surface, Gaussian curvature $K=\det S$ is unchanged, while mean curvature $H=\mathrm{tr}(S)/2$ changes sign.
